What is FIRST?FIRST, or "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology", is an organization dedicated to to inspire students to become interested in science and technology. It was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, who says that the goal of FIRST is "To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders".

Who benefits from
FIRST's projected overall reach for the current robotics season encompasses over 570,000 students, 67,000 teams, 45,000 robots, and 300,000 people in "mentor, coach, judge, and volunteer roles" as of the 2018-2019 season. This includes the FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST Lego League, and FIRST Lego League Jr.

How are we
The Steel Armadillos are a team that competes in the First Robotics Competition each year. But FIRST has many other programs, besides FRC. Although Team 818 is not currently affiliated with any of FIRST's programs for younger students, click here for more details on all of FIRST's leagues and programs.
