Drive Team
The Steel Armadillos' Drive Team are a group of students that compete during competitions. The drive team is comprised of 3 students and a mentor: The Driver, Operator, Human Player, and Drive Coach.
Drive Coach: Ryan R.
Ryan Reichenbach is our one and only Drive Coach. As drive coach Ryan runs around talking to the alliances teams drive teams. Ryan conveys information about us to our alliance and vise versa. Ryan's main job is to make sure that the Alliance strategy is upheld and that our drive team follows it. In Ryan's words, "The drive team follows the Micro Idea and I follow the Macro Idea."
Driver: Luke B
For the '24 FRC season, as driver, Luke's job is to control and maneuver the Robot. Luke races across the field to collect notes, and then hurries back to position the robot in a way that the operator can either shoot in the speaker or score in the Amp. In many cases Luke is also in charge of defending notes from the opposing team as well as passing notes from the feeder to our alliance's side.
Operator: Noah T
Noah is Team 818's current Operator, and as Operator Noah is in charge of the Auton and communicating with the other alliance members with which Auton they are using to determine which of ours we should use so there are little to no collisions. Prior to the match Noah double checks the aimbot to make sure its fully functional and whether or not its better to manually aim or not in Tele-Op. In Tele-Op he also is in charge of shooting notes after being lined up to the speaker, as well as moving our shooter to let us score in the Amp. During End Game Noah is in charge of the mechanism that opens up the elevator and allows the robot to climb.
Human Player: Sneha D. /Toufiq S.
During the 2024 Season, Crescendo, while in Tele-Op 2 human players from the alliance feeds the notes into the field while the 3rd player handles the Amp. After at least 2 notes are fed into the amp the human player may hit the Amp button to begin the amplification process. The amplification process is 10 seconds long, with a max of 4 notes being scored into the speaker. In the End Game period (last 30 sec) the human player can throw "high notes" onto the top of the stage to gain their alliance up to 18 points at district comps. 21 at district championships, and 25 at world stage per high note.
Pit Crew
The Pit Crew is a group of students who work on and compete with the robot during our competitions. They work on improving the robot after matches, changing bumpers, and preparing the robot for an upcoming match.
Luke B.
After matches, Luke immediately switches gear from driving to recovering, being able to solve extreme problems in short amounts of time. Luke's main focus is to maintain and improve our drive train, for example, switching the swerve modules in our drive train whenever needed. Luke and Sam became so skilled with it that they could finish switching in about 5 minutes, when it is usually a 20 minute task. Luke is also credited for creating parts in the pit alongside Toufiq when needed.
Madison B.
Madison checks the robot's scoring mechanisms after matches, do quick or time consuming fixes, as well as changing our bumpers if we change from Red or Blue Alliance. She is also one of the Pit Technicians, she rolls the robot onto and off of the field. Madison also works quickly and efficiently, which is integral when we have matches in quick succession, able to fix as much as possible which could allow a visit to the practice field before a match. On top of this, Madison is a human atlas, knowing where every part s within their pit and cart.
Sam B
Sam is our Drive Team's Pit Safety Captain, which means she is in charge of making sure that the Pit Crew is performing their duties in a safe manner so that no one or nothing around them is hurt or damaged. In the Pit Sam mainly focuses on the wiring and electronics of the robot, as wire checker she makes sure all the wires are functioning and in place, doing tug tests and adding new CAN IDs and making sure that the system recognizes them. She also changes the wheel tread, which gives our wheels more traction, allowing us to move across the field faster and defending better. As the other Pit Technicians Sam is able to do some last minute fixes on the robot while in queue, like tightening bolts or doing tug tests.
Sneha D.
Sneha's specialty is maintaining and improving the robot's wiring with Toufiq. Sneha spends nearly all of her time fixing the wiring, whether in between matches or competition. Before States, Sneha and Toufiq were the robot's saving grace by spending days of their own time to fix and restart issues the wiring faced from all of our previous competitions. Sneha also worked alongside Sam working on the electronics, Sneha would change the Kraken Motors in record times allowing us to focus on different parts of the robot that might need attention
Toufiq S.
Toufiq's main focus is maintaining the robot's wiring with Sneha. Toufiq spends majority of his time before, during, and after competitions fixing all the wiring. Before States, Toufiq and Sneha were operating on the robot, making sure every inch was perfect and in peak condition to perform and excel during competition. Toufiq's ability to bench 280 lbs. also made it easy for him to move or lift the robot. Toufiq also created parts when things are bent or broken alongside Luke.
Noah T
Noah is the Pit Crew's Software Technician and tweaks the auton throughout each competition. Noah continues the ambition and skillset of the auton, or adds slight adjustments to our movement or "Aimbot". The "Aimbot" is how our robot shoots and it works by locating the speaker automatically making it ready to shoot whether in auton or tele-op. Whenever our "Aimbot" would need improvement or if we wanted to try something ambitious, Noah does what is needed.
