Monthly Outreach System
A part of Team 818's mission is to foster a community that builds younger generations into working citizens of society by supporting them in all endeavors. The team conducts monthly outreach events reaching out to elementary schools, food banks, charities, etc. Our main focus is to encourage children in our district to explore STEM careers and possibly join the FIRST Robotics community.
2024 OUTREACH EVENTS
October
Team 818 went to Wilkerson Elementary to teach students about STEM by designing LEGO Mindstorms to do various driven tasks.
2023 OUTREACH EVENTS
January
Team 818 created a SoildWorks tutorial for a middle school engineering class.
February
Team 818 partnered with Carter Middle School's FTC team (Cyber Cats) to host a STEM day for WCS elementary students in order to encourage interest in robotics and STEM.
March
Team 818 went to Mark Twain Elementary's Science Night and presented about robotics and did a demonstration of Supernova!
MAY
Team 818 attended Berkley Days and set up a robotics station showcasing Supernova and its maneuvers. This encouraged students to explore STEM and its fun side!
November
Team 818 did an activity with kindergarteners to learn more about robotics by making geometrical shapes out of marshmallows.
December
Team 818 conducted a STEM night at the Warren Civic Center Library—activities ranged from robot demonstrations to bridge-building activities.
2022 OUTREACH EVENTS
February
Team 818 visited a kindergarten class at Willow Woods Elementary and did an activity on 3D shapes using marshmallows and pretzel sticks.
March
Team 818 visited Siersma Elementary's ecology club and did an activity where we created water filters out of water bottles and natural materials.
June
Team 818 visited Pearl Lean Elementary and presented who The Steel Armadillos are and what each sub-team contributes.
August
Team 818 volunteered as a group at Focus Hope and helped package food for the elderly in Detroit.
September
Team 818 volunteered at Arts, Beats, and Eats where we encouraged creativity amongst the youth by helping them innovate and develop their own designs.
November
Team 818 visited a 5th grade STEM class at Cromie Elementary. Here, our team did an engaging activity on Newton's Third Law using water bottle cars.
December
Team 818 attended the Warren Consolidated Schools' school board meeting where our team members got the opportunity to advocate for STEM within our community.

Team 818 wrapped gifts for Friends of Foster Kids.
